OWH VCMP - Things with Wheels - Doodle Pantry Image

Moving right along...to Challenge #6 - Things with Wheels.  I had so many images to choose from but I really wanted to use an image that had not already been used by someone else and I really don't enjoy coloring so I knew exactly where to look - Doodle Pantry!  I LOVE the pre-colored sets that Laurie Wilson designs and I found the perfect one for me.

The set I used is called Wagon Wheel and is only $3.00! It comes with the patterned paper I used (plus one other) and several sentiments.  I had already picked out OWH Sketch #43 and chose to add my own sentiment in MS Word so it would be OWH appropriate and fit in focal image like I wanted.  My husband REALLY liked this card so I think I will make some more to add to my box that is getting pretty full!

Off to find out what's next on Challenge #7!  Woo Hoo!

OWH VCMP - Disappearing Act with Sketch #63

I am behind on my challenges and even further behind on my posting but I am NOT throwing in the towel just yet!  I am blessed to work for Genesee Christian School and we have today, President's Day, off school so I have all day to catch up and finish up the challenges.  Yay me!'

Challenge #5 is called Disappearing Act with Sketch #63 in which we are challenged to use OWH Sketch #63 with a full sheet of 12 x 12 patterned paper - making 6 cards to "make it all disappear."  The hardest part of this challenge for me was choosing the paper to use!  I have a ton of 12 x 12 papers that were given to me a few years ago and  honestly think I need to get serious about weeding it out and giving some away to the elementary school....but not today!  Today I create!

The patterned paper I believe I picked up at JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby.  It matches the retired (sad face) Stampin' Up! Brocade Blue card stock, ink, and brad.  The words are also retire SU! from a set called Sage Advice.  I used my Cuttlebug to dry emboss the stars and cut out the stars.

Although the challenge only called for 6 cards I found that I had 3 strips of paper left over so I grabbed them up and made a 7th card that I like just as much - best to do that while my desk is already covered with the matching ink, brads, and card stock.

And here is a great photo of all 6 together - I'm sorry but I love this photo!  My camera is forever old and I hate it but somehow the angle of this photo makes me happy.  Obviously it doesn't take much.

I have Challenge #6 done too but will wait for awhile to post it :)

Having a BLAST!  Are you?

OWH VCMP - Things with Wings

Challenge #4 is to make a card using an image/paper containing "Things With Wings" which I found slightly ironic - this is the second challenge in the same day that calls for something I JUST used on the card for the previous challenge!  And then, to make it even "worse" I ended up using the same color scheme as the previous card I posted - sorry for the monotony but I really love the contrast and elegance of black/white cards.

For this card I used "Monarch" clear stamps by Inque Boutique - I bought this set online from another stamper/scrapbooker and I absolutely love it.  I have wanted a swirly flourishes type stamp set for years and I finally found one that fit into my budget.  The only embellishment on this card is Glossy Accents on the dots in and around the butterflies, they add a subtle elegance and dimension.  Oh, and the focal rectangle is popped up with 3M Mounting Tape.

If you would like to join in on the OWH Virtual Card Making Party click on over to the Master Thread, all are welcome and we are having a blast!

Off to tackle challenge #5....

OWH VCMP - Texture Omit/Selective Embossing

How fun it can be to learn a new technique!  Beth challenged us to make a card using a "diffuser" to selectively emboss our card fronts then stamping any image in the portion that was not texturized by the embossing folder.  It was much easier than I thought and I really appreciated the link that Beth provided to a video that explained how to make the diffuser on our own using cardstock.

Anyone who is familar with my stamping style knows that I dry emboss on many of my cards with large areas of plain card stock so this technique is one that I am sure I will be using again in the future.

I may not have chosen the best stamp to highlight the "non-embossed" area for this challenge but it is still pretty.  Anyone out there surprised to see that I actually colored this image?  Ha!  I am!  The stamp is from SU! called Garden Collage from 2005.  I used a blender pen and SU! markers to lightly color it.

On to Challenge #4!

PS: for more info on what VCMP is please see previous posts.

OWH VCMP - Cards with Critters

Operation Write Home is hosting a Virtual Card Making Party this weekend in honor of "President's Day" and everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!

What is a VCMP? It is where a bunch of us get together "virtually" and make cards for our heroes using themes and challenges that are presented by various OWH bloggers throughout the weekend. Then we post our creations and link them up to the challenger's blog and then visits the blogs of other card makers to see what they created using the same theme. Sounds fun, right? It is! So head on over and check it out and join in the fun! Here is the Master Thread with OWH.

The second challenge is to make a "Card With A Critter" and to sweeten the pot Misty has created a digi of "baby Ciara" and is sharing it FREE today only - just remember, if you ask for it you MUST use it for the challenge.

For this card I used the current (as of today) sketch for OWH #159.  I typed up the words in MS Word and used a square punch to make the banners.  The paper is from JoAnn's by The Paper Studio and is called "Random Doggie Bones."  I added 1/4" grossgrain ribbon from SU! as well as a layer of black and craft card stock.

Here is OWH Sketch #159:

Thanks Misty for a fun challenge and a super cute baby Ciara digi!

OWH VCMP - Chevron/Zig Zag Card

Operation Write Home is hosting a Virtual Card Making Party this weekend in honor of "President's Day" and everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!

Our first challenge turned out to be a BIG challenge for me!  My first card was so awful that I actually had a good laugh, sent a "can you believe how bad this is?" pic to my BFF, and promptly threw it in the trash.  Don't flip your lid, most of it was made from scraps anyway!

My second attempt was considerably better.  I used OWH Sketch #111 (and yes, I am still keeping track of the sketches used because I am determined to complete them all one day!)

The paper is by MME, Summer Splash, and the stamp is by Inkadinkado.  The card stock is all Stampin' Up!  And here is the sketch:

Funny thing is...I just made and posted to Facebook this card a few days ago.  The Chevrons were made by cutting 1" squares in half then adhering (very well) them to the black card stock.  The patterned paper is from Doodle Pantry (Dolphin set.)

Well, on to the next challenge!  Misty has made an adorable digi of our mascot, Ciara, to use!

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Cards 4 Kids

Today was a wonderful day in the Oliver household - a SNOW DAY!  Which means I get to STAMP and that makes me very happy!  I firmly believe that when an unexpected day off work comes along that we should spend the day doing the things we wish we were doing everyday while we are doing the things that we have to be doing.  Don't you?

Today's card share is a card inspired by this week's Midweek Throwdown for Operation Write Home to make "Cards 4 Kids"   I personally love to make cards for kids because I can't help but imagine the smiles on the little faces as they open and enjoy a card written just for them by their very own hero who is stationed so very far away.

Can you believe how cute that little birdie is?!?  Who wouldn't smile at that?  I used the digitally colored image from Doodle Pantry's newly released set called Baseball Birdie, and of course I couldn't make just one...

or even two....six of these cuties fit on my printed piece of card stock so of course they all needed a home!

So in my Operation Write Home box they go...and then off to The Sandbox (aka Afghanistan) then back to the US to share some love on someone's special day.  And that is what it is all about.

Happy Stamping and God's Richest Blessings,

New Release Day at Doodle Pantry!

The first day of the month means it is New Release Day at Doodle Pantry!   This month I chose to showcase the new set called Dolphins - I used the PRECOLORED version of the dolphin because I love the colors and they make my card making so much more fun and enjoyable.  Plus, I can make lots of them for Operation Write Home and birthday cards for kids are always needed.

I used this week's Sketch #157 for OWH Stars and Stamps and  lo and behold this card also qualifies for the OWH Midweek Throwdown  - Happy Birthday card challenge!  Talk about getting some miles out of one card!  :)

Here is the sketch:

This card came together so quickly and easily that I printed a dozen more images and the patterned paper to go with them (all included in the set) for more cards for my OWH box that is almost full and ready to ship out.

Thanks for stopping  by and Happy Stamping!
